In 1619 twenty Africans were brought to the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia, starting the legal practice of slavery during the colonial period. For the next 150 years Ghana, the former Gold Coast, was the center of the British slave trade. It is estimated that about 10 million slaves were imprisoned in the 40 plus fortresses on the coast of Ghana and eventually forcibly brought to the Americas. We are the descendants of these survivors.

In December 2018, the Full Circle Festival kicked off the Year of Return with a mission to reconnect the African Diaspora to the continent and to change the narrative about Africa. In his 2019 State of the Union Address, President Nana Akufo-Addo credited Full Circle Africa with playing an instrumental role in generating roughly $1.6B for the Ghanaian economy and helping grow tourism significantly in 2019. 

 

Since then, the ‘Year of Return’ initiative has seamlessly transitioned into ‘Beyond the Return’ and Ghana has become the premier destination for Western first-time visitors to Africa. Post Covid, we believe now is the time for the next phase on the path to take Africa’s brand image ‘from Aid to Investment’. 

 

The long-term goal of Full Circle has always been economic development by way of showing the world Africa’s viability and readiness to engage in global business on a wider scale, its potential in regard to global innovation and its abundance of brilliant young talent.​ After 3 immensely successful events in Accra, Full Circle Africa is now poised to venture into other countries on the continent to duplicate the impact achieved in Ghana.
